HEALTHY LIVING ON IBIZA
You hear a lot lately about living a healthy lifestyle, but what does it really mean? In general, a healthy person doesn’t smoke, maintains a healthy weight, eats good food and exercises daily. Sounds very simple doesn’t it? The trick to healthy living is making small changes… step by step: adding more fruits and vegetables, having an extra glass of water… doing some yoga or Qi Gong exercises in the morning… These are just a few of the ways you can improve your health without drastic changes.
One of the biggest challenges for most people is to get started with a daily exercise program. We know it’s good for us but avoid it like the plaque because we are afraid that exercise has to be vigorous to be worth our time. The truth is that all movement is good for you. Of course the more you do the healthier you’ll be, but even moderate activities like gardening and daily walking can make a difference. Just adding more movement to your life can:
- reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes
- improve joint stability
- increase and improve range of motion
- elevate your moods
- reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression
- enhance self esteem
- reduce stress
So, even if you opt for small changes and a modest weight loss, you can see that the benefits are still pretty good. Many studies have shown that just a 10% weight reduction helps overweight people to reduce blood pressure and cholesterol while increasing longevity.
Walking in Ibiza’s beautiful nature along the coastline or in the countryside is one of the best “ soft exercises” you can imagine. Taking in the incredible colors of the sea and the Mediterranean sky is very soothing to the eyes. The smells of the many herbs which grow wildly here (lavender, thyme, rosemary…) energizes you physically, gives you a feeling of joy and brings harmonic balance to your whole being.
